In 2015, we hosted a group of city officials and residents from Okaya, Japan at the end of July.   In 2017 and 2019 we hosted student delegates from Okaya, Japan.  In 2021 we will once again be hosting the Japanese student delegates from Okaya, Japan.  If you are interested in being a host family for our Japanese youth delegates in the future click here.   If you are interested in helping to plan their visit, please contact us.

Every other summer, during the year that ends with an odd number, we have the privilege of hosting  a group of Student Delegates from Okaya, Japan.  The Board will come up with a diverse schedule of daily events to help the students get a picture of our local community.  There are also days allotted as Family Days for them to spend with their host families.  We will need a host family for each student and prefer to select families that have students of similar age and gender.  We have found that the opportunity to connect with their American peer group is truly the highlight of this cross cultural exchange.

On the opposite years or even numbered years, we interview and select six to eight local 10th and 11th grade high school students to serve as Student Delegates to Okaya, Japan.  They enjoy home stays with a Japanese family and daily activities in the Okaya area.   We sent a student delegation of 8 students from the Mt. Pleasant Area  to Okaya, Japan in the summer of 2018.   This opportunity has truly made a considerable impact on our local students.

Japanese Student Delegates came from our Sister City of Okaya, Japan in the summer of 2019.  Sadly due to the Novel Corona-virus Pandemic we will not be sending Mt. Pleasant Student Delegates to Okaya, Japan this summer (2020).
